This is the second A/B side Pre-Release off my upcoming record, Flowers On The Moon.
Purchase any of these A/B sides for 10 beans and I'll send ya the gorgeous physical CD, a few months before the official release of the record this Spring.
Sugar Man, as many of you know, is by Detroit singer songwriter, Rodriguez. I had the privilege of seeing him live a few years back and was truly inspired to lay down my take on this perfect, sorrow filled drug song. We dug deep into the vast addictive emptiness of endless unfulfilled desire on this one. And a few folks have favorably compared the vocal performance to a mellow Robert Plant. I'm obviously down with that.
Burning a Horse is a tune you probably haven't heard, and was written by Sam Jacobs of The Flying Change and produced by the one and only, Paul Brill, another favorite songwriter of mine. I've seen them many times at Rockwood and this one always felt very cinematic to me, a poetic homage to a glamorous burned out wasteland, a Day of the Locust noirish, vintage LA affair. My take features a delicate Neil Young inspired vocal with some Nick Cave vibed murder ballady harmonies thrown in for good measure.
