about
Cry is an old school ballad with a little blue eyed soul. It's about needing a good hug and a good cry to let it all go. The latter I'm not so good at, but I'm working on it!
Fun fact...the album cover is a selfie I took in The Carnegie Club Cigar Lounge bathroom in between smoking a stogie with some friends 🥸
Cry is the first of three singles from my forthcoming Love Songs For Leah album, an ode to my wonderful wife, with a musical nod to Jamie Leonhart, who introduced us! Jamie sings back up on my first solo EP, Glide, and Elvis Costello sings on her cover of (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding!
Cry features some lovely violin playing by Rosie McNamara Jones and Mark Schreiber adds some delightful flamenco flare with his castanets. It was produced by Mike "Slo-Mo' Brenner with me and Pete Rydberg along for the ride at Pete's 1935 Studio in South Philadelphia. Stereophonic Mastering by Timothy Stollenwerk in Portland.
I hope you enjoy it. Please share if you do. If you want to support my recording adventures, please consider purchasing the track and pay what you want here.
When u need a place to stay, to my arms you’ll find your way
As I hold you close we’ll sway, and the world will melt away
As you cry, cry, cry
All through the night
My best to you and yours,
Neil Nathan
lyrics
I know a place
You can go when you face
All your storms and fears
Away from the fight
When the seas get too rough
When you worry too much
When you need a little space
To kiss it goodbye
When your words get in the way
When your sorrow wins the day
You can cry, cry, cry
All through the night
Fate has its way
It can bring so much pain
And we never have the time
To live with it all
When the race gets too rough
When it’s all just too much
In my arms you'll find a place
To kiss it goodbye
As I hold you close, we’ll sway
And the world will melt away
As you cry, cry, cry
All through the night
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go now
Let em flow
Let em flow
Let em flow
Let the tears out
Don't have to be strong now
They'll wash it away
I know a place you can go
When you face
all your storms and fears
Away from the fight
When you need a place to stay
To my arms, you’ll find your way
As I hold you close, we’ll sway
And the world will melt away
As you cry, cry, cry
All through the night
