about
All proceeds from this song and the album cover T Shirt go to World Central Kitchen who are providing meals to displaced Ukranians in Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Hungary - neil-nathan.myshopify.com
Produced by Wild Pink's steel guitarist Mike Slo-Mo Brenner, Neil Nathan's The Folly of War is an unlikely atmospheric Americana anti war anthem. There are brush strokes of old school trip folk giants David Bowie and Cat Stevens, but the song sounds decidedly modern and a bit breezy despite such heavy lyrical fare. As Nathan pensively weaves between epochs, lamenting our masters of war, he's buoyed by a faith in the power of the good in folks to move us past this era of warring states.
The artist raised $8k from his 9/11 20th Anniversary Tribute Single, The Guardrail, for the Fred Gabler Helping Hand Camp Fund and will be donating all proceeds from sales of The Folly of War to World Central Kitchen.
lyrics
The soldiers take their place one by one
The weapons they embrace reflect in the sun
But others would not fight, cause loving was their plight
And they ran home to fields of joy, wine, women and song
To pray, to kill, to die, the common man's chore
Repent, lay down your life for history's score
But what if the sport of kings, allowed us to spread our wings,
And fly off like pigs in zen to heavenly shores?
Centurions all are we
Marching to destiny
Love is strong
Tethered by hope, The dream
Across the eon beams
Life is long
Love is strong
War is wrong
The world will someday embrace the folly of war
'Til then we'll all have to face the blood and the gore
But sometimes I worry oh, that nothing would scare us so
Like living with peace and love, would we all just be bored?
